Goal of the Initial Call

Ultimately, we want to see if there’s good fundamental fit and good “vibe fit.” By now you’ve hopefully done your initial pre-filtering and it’s time to simply get to know this person better.

🧠 MINDSET — How to approach the call:

• Experimenter’s mindset
  • You’re not committed to each other; you're just exploring to see if there’s a good fit
• Assume you’re both talking to other potential buddies and will choose the best match
  • So no hard feelings if it’s not a fit

🎯 CALL GOALS — What to aim to leave the call with:

Ideally you’d leave the call having assessed your compatibility in these areas…

• [ ] Vibe / conversational style / how well you “click”
• [ ] Commitment level compatibility
• [ ] Business vision / trajectory compatibility
  • Do our paths feel compatible and like we’ll be able to provide interesting insights to each other?
    • You don’t need to be in the same technical craft or doing the exact same thing (in fact, getting data about how things work in a different industry / niche / craft can be incredibly insightful!)
    • BUT it would be really helpful if you are both working towards a similar long-term business structure, such as solo freelancer, agency, creating products eventually, etc. More on this in the “Build the Right Business” Mini-Course

• [ ] “Would I be happy talking to this person every week indefinitely?”

  • “What is the meaning of life? (not 42)”
• What are our current business structures
  • Biz type / team size (solo freelancer, agency, etc)
  • Technical craft; what sorts of clients you work with — super short; in 2 minutes or less!!!!
  • Hours per week working in the biz (Full time? Part time? Side hustle?)
• Super duper short recap of each of our histories freelancing; where we started and how we got to where we are now — in 2 minutes or less!!!!
